Earlier this week, CNN broke the story that a trove of COVID files outlining the Chinese government’s response to response to the pandemic had come into their possession. The documents showed that — much as the rest of the world did — China struggled to get the virus under control. They also prove what some observers had long suspected: the China was understating its COVID deaths from the beginning. We spoke with the FDD’s Emily de La Bruyère about the document dump and what it means for our deeper understanding both of the pandemic and of China’s geopolitical strategy.
