Sidney B. Felsen is the president and co-founder of Gemini Graphic Editions Limited. Through his leadership of Gemini and the cultivation of lasting relationships with world-renowned artists such as John Baldessari, Sophie Calle, Frank Gehry, Ann Hamilton, David Hockney, Jasper Johns, Ellsworth Kelly, Roy Lichtenstein, Julie Mehretu, Bruce Nauman, Claes Oldenburg, Susan Rothenberg, Robert Rauschenberg, Richard Serra, Joel Shapiro, Richard Tuttle, Terry Winters, and others who have regularly worked at Gemini, Felsen has overseen the creation of lithographs, etchings, woodcuts, screenprints, and sculptures in a variety of media.
For over forty years, Felsen has documented his world of friends and associates who have been guest artists at Gemini. He has captured on film the artists working and playing in Los Angeles and beyond. The photographs provide a unique window into the art world in that they reach beyond mere recording to allow the viewer to be present at intimate moments of creativity and inspiration. Felsen’s photographs have been exhibited internationally and published in exhibition catalogs by such prestigious institutions as the National Gallery of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and Dusseldorf’s Kunsthalle.
Felsen has held leadership roles on the board of the Graphic Arts Council at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art as well as the Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts at the Hammer Museum. Felsen currently serves on the board of the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. Felsen and Gemini G.E.L. have supported countless not-for-profit organizations and political campaigns since 1970 through the creation of benefit prints by 30 different artists.
