Manuel Valls

Manuel Valls

Former Prime Minister of France

Manuel Valls was born in Barcelona in 1962, and he was naturalized French in 1982. He made a commitment to the Socialist Party at 18 years old. This commitment led him  to hold several mandates of local power, in Argenteuil, then as first vice-president of the Region Île-de-France, and finally mayor of Evry, in Essonne, of which he was elected in 2002. In 2012, François Hollande entrusted him with the responsibility of the Ministry of the Interior. He was appointed Prime Minister at the end of March 2014. He took on this role in a particularly difficult time for his country. In June 2017, following the election of Emmanuel Macron as President of the Republic, he regained his seat as Deputy of the first constituency of Essonne.
