Asher Edelman began his career on Wall Street in 1961. In 1969 he formed a series of companies where businesses included investment banking, money management and derivatives trading.

In 1988 he moved to Switzerland and founded the FAE Musée d’Art Contemporain in Pully, near Lausanne. Through the museum he launched the first European retrospective exhibitions of Robert Mapplethorpe, Jean-Michele Basquiat, Roy Lichtenstein and others. Edelman is the founder and president of ArtAssure Ltd LC, a unique art finance company created in 2010, which places art at auction, lends, purchases, and guarantees the price of art at auction and elsewhere. In 2014 Edelman formed Artemus USA LLC in partnership with The Durst Organization and David Storper. Artemus offers innovative art finance through leasing, allowing individuals to unlock the value of their art collections. Artemus also provides art leasing to real estate developers, corporations, and hospitality groups.

Edelman has served on many boards of trustees of art and educational institutions, including as Chairman of the Board of Brooklyn Academy of Music, Vice Chairman of American Ballet Theater, Vice Chairman of the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, Chairman of the Karole Armitage Dance Group, Board member of the Prix de Lausanne, the Gotham Chamber Opera, and many others. He presently serves on the Board of Bard College.
